FAS opened a case against MegaFon due to unreasonable increase in tariffs

The Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Russian Federation initiated a case against PJSC Megafon due to an unreasonable increase in tariffs. The ministry clarified that in May 2022, the operator increased tariffs for communication services for more than 16.5 million subscribers by an average of 12%.

During the audit, the FAS found that the level of tariff changes did not correspond to the level of inflation since the beginning of the current year. After that, the antimonopoly service analyzed the economic feasibility of the increase.

“The agency came to the conclusion that the increase in the company’s costs does not correspond to the increase in revenues from the increase in tariffs for communication services. This can lead to infringement of the interests of consumers,” the FAS reports.

As a result, the Antimonopoly Service of Russia initiated a case against MegaFon on the grounds of violation of clause 1, part 1, article 10 of the law on protection of competition.

Representatives of the operator noted that the company informed the Federal Antimonopoly Service in advance about the change in the cost of tariffs.

“Now we are in close contact with the department and provide additional documents confirming our position.”

Recall that on October 12, the FAS recognized the violator of the antimonopoly law due to the increase in the cost of communication services of another operator – MTS.
